Underperforming inn becomes celebrated rustic Lodge.
A proud but failing inn in Lake Placid, NY was the genesis for The Lake Placid Lodge. The Garrett Hotel Group redesigned and rebuilt the old “Placid Manor” into a magnificent and hugely popular rustic luxury boutique hotel with thirteen sumptuous suites and seventeen guest cabins right at the rim of the sparkling water – the only hotel on the lake, and set away from the bustle of the busy mountain town. Every guest room has a wood-burning stone fireplace, a king-size feather bed, antique furnishings and a dazzling view.
The stately main lodge, built around a grand central staircase, steps down the hillside toward the docks. Broad stone porches look out towards the woods, the water and mighty Whiteface Mountain, and fires blaze in the massive outdoor hearths. Beloved, cheery Maggie’s pub and renowned Artisans restaurant feature farm-to-table cuisine in an intimate atmosphere.
The Main Lodge burned to the ground in 2005 and the Garretts undertook a $40M rebuild and renovation of the property in the Adirondack Craftsman style into what has become one of the finest small luxury hotels on the continent. Lake Placid Lodge has been a member of Relais & Châteaux since 1996.
The Garrett Hotel Group owned and operated The Lake Placid Lodge from 1994 to 2009, and was responsible for concept, design, construction, financials, marketing, amenities and management of this fabulous getaway.
