The Willcox was a high-style beauty built in the late 19th century in Aiken, South Carolina for well-to-do Yankees visiting what was the "winter colony" of the Gilded Age. By 2001, The Willcox was vacant and falling into disrepair. The Garrett Hotel Group completely repositioned and refurbished the boutique hotel, creating a grand, firelit lobby, a professional kitchen to service the dining room and bar, and 22 sumptuous guest rooms and suites with four-poster beds, fireplaces, and luxurious baths.
A small but first class spa, a fitness center and an outdoor swimming pool were added as guest amenities.
The hotel was sold in 2009; and today The Willcox is a gracious, traditional and popular hotel, its long rocking chair porches and stately white pillars perfectly at home in the pretty town of Aiken, the "polo capital" of the South.
Close by are emerald green polo fields, Aiken's many boutiques and cafes, the famed golf courses of Augusta and the hunting and fishing paradise of Aiken County. The Willcox was a member of Relais & Châteaux for several years.
